Outdoor Destinations for Summertime Food and Drink
Kansas City’s summer afternoons and evenings are a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy the great food and drinks the metro area has to offer. There is something for every palate with the city’s diverse selection of restaurants ranging from the country’s finest barbecue to raw vegan specialties and everything in between. We’ve put together a short list of our favorite patios in the area to take advantage of the warm weather. Here’s our list:
Up-Down
Located in the heart of the Crossroads District, Up-Down brings back the video arcade of yesteryear with 25 cent games. With classic arcade games from Contra—no 100 lives code, sorry—to Mortal Kombat 4 and other options like Nintendo and Sega consoles, pinball and skee-ball, you’re bound to find your inner child and reminisce about summer days spent at Aladdin’s Castle. The bar features over 50 arcade games and even more craft beers on tap. The arcade bar has a wide selection of cans and bottles, and also 80s- and 90s-inspired cocktails. The patio is the real hero with life-size Jenga and Connect Four for everyone to play.
Chez Elle
Chez Elle is Kansas City’s creperie and coffee house. It’s located in the historic Summit Theatre building, and it serves fresh crepes made with only the freshest, hand-selected fruits, cheeses, meats and vegetables and made-from scratch batters. Crepe options range from savory crepes and breakfast crepes to sweet crepes. The creperie also offers soup, salad and French pastries like macarons. The creperie caters to those who may have food allergies or dietary preferences with gluten-free and vegan batter options. Sunday brunch is something you don’t want to miss, but show up early or the line will be around the block.
